TRIGGER University is our signature summer experience in partnership with the DC Department of Employment Services Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), equipping youth with life skills, professional development, and opportunities to explore their potential in a structured, engaging environment.
Job Description:
The T.R.I.G.G.E.R Project is seeking dedicated graduate-level social work interns to join our team in Washington, DC. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in violence prevention, community engagement, and counseling. Interns will engage directly with youth impacted by gun violence, delivering educational programming and providing both one-on-one and group therapy sessions to support their mental and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in delivering a gun violence prevention curriculum to teens and young adults.
- Facilitate interactive workshops and discussions.
- Provide one-on-one counseling to support youth needing additional assistance in processing program material.
- Lead group therapy sessions for youth highly exposed to gun violence.
- Collaborate with team members to tailor educational materials for diverse learners.
- Cultivate a supportive, trauma-informed learning environment.
- Monitor and report on program effectiveness and participant feedback.
- Act as a role model and mentor for program participants.
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in a graduate-level social work program.
- Experience working with youth affected by systemic inequities and violence.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and counseling skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, youth, and community partners.
- Preferred familiarity with trauma-informed care and community violence prevention strategies.
- Successful completion of a background check and required training.
Compensation:
- This is a volunteer position. All interns must be over the age of 21 years old. College credit is available depending on the requirements of your college or university. All internship offers are contingent on passing mandatory background check.
