What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal/Legal Assistant position at The Thomas & Associates Law Firm, LLC?
Our firm needs a experienced paralegal for our office in Canton who can speak and read Spanish fluently. The candidate will work full time. The candidate will be paid between $15.00 to $20.00 per hour. Your previous experience will determine your hourly rate.
The firm needs someone who knows at least the basic stages of cases in Criminal, Family, Immigration, and Domestic Law. The candidate will need to know or be familiar with the documents drafted at each stage of a case. They will need to be comfortable drafting the next document in a client's case on their own using the most current litigation notes left in the client's folder. It will also be their responsibility to contact clients and retrieve all needed information to complete a legal document or form.
A two year associates degree in paralegal studies or a bachelor’s degree in political science is preferred. If you don't have the preferred educational documents, but have the experience, and honest interest in the legal system, please feel free to apply.
You must be comfortable using a computer. You must be comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and an internet browser such as Google Chrome.
Your ability to use a computer will be tested during the interview.
Other Duties:
- You will answer phone calls.
- You will schedule consolations and other meetings.
- You will be responsible for updating Mr. Thomas’s calendar. You will use mailed court notices and online case search systems to update his calendar.
- You will search for conflicts in Mr. Thomas’s scheduled court events and create conflict letters. These conflict letters will be e-mailed or physically mailed to courts in various counties.
- You will send mail to judges, attorneys, and clerk offices.
- You will file documents at courthouses.
- You will retrieve discoveries from district attorney offices.
- You will use scanners to make electronic copies of files
- You will store electronic files in folders inside the firm’s database.
- You will create client invoices.
