As a member of the Executive Team, the Controller will provide leadership and management to ensure the company has the proper operational and financial controls, reporting procedures, people, and systems in place to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency for each department. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Controller will lead and oversee all finance and accounting operations including payroll. The Controller works closely with the property management and brokerage divisions to provide leadership and ensure operational compliance with company policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
General Leadership
- Meet with and provide executive level service directly to clients as required and requested to ensure the highest level of client satisfaction.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and management to the functional departments including Property Management, HR, Finance/Accounting.
- Support and advise the CEO & President with overall organization strategic initiatives and decisions.
o Facilitate the execution of the strategic growth plan.
o Establish key performance indicators (KPI) and administrative budgets to achieve results consistent with strategic plan goals.
o Drive the company to achieve increased NOI and cash flow while decreasing risk and meeting strategic growth plan goals and objectives.
- Establish policies that promote company culture and vision.
- Develop, improve, and ensure the effectiveness of all internal and external organization processes.
- Provide timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the company.
- Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment that is rooted in finding and creating value in real estate that also improves the quality of life within the communities where the Company works.
- Create accountability and ownership among team members through communication of clear expectations, supervision, and provision of timely performance feedback.
- Provide technical advice to Property Management leadership teams in making financially sound and informed decisions that achieve accounting and budget compliance goals.
- Develop and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and systems to improve the overall effectiveness of accounting operations, including implementing items as required or recommended by corporate accounting.
- Interface with clients to provide reporting and analysis on overall operating and financial status of properties.
Finance/Accounting
- Provide financial analysis to brokerage division on potential listings/investments.
- Prepare construction draws to vendors and provide reports required for renovations to lenders and clients.
- Responsible for management and maintenance of all accounting software and systems.
- Assist, as required, in raising additional capital and securing new clients to meet strategic plan goals.
- Ensure corporate and property level financial statements are prepared accurately and timely in accordance with company accounting policies and procedures.
- Direct all aspects of property accounting operations, including general ledger, tenant ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and cash flow management.
- Responsible for ensuring accurate daily accounting and monitoring functions in general ledger, accounts payable, expense controls, financial reporting, wire fund transfers, and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Supervises the completion of Federal and State income tax reporting requirements.
- Ensures all financial reporting deadlines are met.
- Establishes and monitors the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legal agreements including escrow agreements that may impact accounting operations and reporting.
- Reviews/prepares funding requests, distribution calculations, and lender draws.
- Ad hoc research, analysis, and reporting.
- In charge of month end closing and reporting process.
- Oversee corporate and property level budget preparations.
HR/Payroll
- Lead implementation and training efforts to ensure standard operating procedures and property accounting workflows are adopted throughout the organization.
- Responsible for oversight and management of payroll operations.
o Ensure that payroll fees are billed and collected from clients timely and accurately.
o Work with property management to ensure employee time is accurately tracked at each location.
- Assist property management department with facilitating employee training and performance management, including disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews.
- Support recruiting and hiring efforts as needed including recommending salary and compensation structures to ensure compliance with budgets.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $99,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
