Library Director

The Timrod Library in Summerville, South Carolina, has an opening for a Library Director. This position reports 28 hours per week and is a permanent, part-time position. The position of Library Director is key to the operation and atmosphere of the Timrod Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership library.

Job Description:

• Maintain a friendly and welcoming environment in the library.
• Direct staff duties and tasks in compliance with the procedure manual.
• Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers.
• Maintain library membership roster.
• Promote library programs and services.
• Actively participate in Timrod events and activities whenever possible.
• Attend monthly board meetings.
• Maintain regular communication with Board President and assist with duties as requested.
• Oversee the maintenance of the historic building, regularly identifying needs and contacting appropriate service providers to ensure the building remains in very good condition.
• Perform tasks to keep the library running smoothly: update procedure manual; select and purchase new books; oversee donations of books; classify, catalog, and process all new and donated books into the collection; purchase supplies; enter all monetary transactions into Donations software; submit time sheets for staff; and complete other duties as assigned.

• Proficient in internet use and Microsoft Office Suite
• Proven management experience
• Ability to juggle numerous responsibilities and delegate as needed

The Library Director is responsible for managing all aspects of library operations and for always advocating for the library while meeting the requirements of the Library Board. The director is responsible for managing two part-time staff and 10-12 operational volunteers. Candidates with library experience are preferred, but library experience is not required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $21,840.00 per year
