Grief Counselor - Full-Time

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma

Reports to: Director of Programs

Employment Status: Exempt, Full-Time

Position Summary:

As a Grief Counselor at The Grief Center, you will work closely with the Director of Programs and Clinic Coordinator to provide professional counseling services to adults, teens, and children. You will also support the center’s mission, goals, and strategic plan through client counseling, documentation, and community outreach. This role focuses on four key areas:

  • Client Counseling
  • Client Documentation and Records
  • Outreach Support
  • Community Education


Key Responsibilities:


Client Counseling:

  • Conduct assessments and provide individual, couple, or family grief counseling.
  • Facilitate group sessions for general or specific losses, including groups for children and teens.
  • Provide crisis intervention, including suicide risk assessments, and make appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure comprehensive care for all clients.

Client Documentation and Records:

  • Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans.
  • Accurately document assessments, treatment progress, case management, and follow-up services.
  • Ensure timely maintenance and filing of client records.

Community Education and Outreach Support:

  • Offer counseling, group, and crisis services at partner locations within the community as needed.
  • Facilitate special events both within The Grief Center and in the community.
  • Assist with Camp Erin Tulsa, a bereavement camp for children and teens, providing support and guidance to campers.
  • Occasionally assist with training interns and pre-licensed counselors.
  • Provide community education on grief-related and mental health topics.


Essential Practices:

  • Uphold accountability, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all client and community interactions.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and community partners.
  • Stay informed about the latest research on grief and mental health.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and clinical staffing.


Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed (or under supervision for licensure) in Oklahoma.
  • Experience in individual and group therapy, mental health assessments, and bereavement counseling.
  • Strong desire for continued professional development and growth.
