Summary:
The Sexual Assault Therapist will provide culturally responsive individual therapy and group therapy to survivors of childhood sexual abuse, rape, sex trafficking, and other forms of sexual violence. The role emphasizes trauma-informed, culturally humble treatment planning tailored to clients' unique cultural backgrounds and lived experiences. The Sexual Assault Therapist will also contribute to agency learning through presentations and participate in all clinical and agency-wide trainings to enhance inclusive care. The Sexual Assault Therapist is responsible for triage and evaluation of client treatment goals, trauma-informed collaborative treatment planning, ongoing standardized assessments of client symptomology and progress, and finding appropriate resources and referrals for client(s). The Sexual Assault Therapist will also facilitate learning within the agency via presentations and participate in all clinical and appropriate agency-wide trainings and events. Fluency in Spanish and/or experience working with bilingual and multilingual populations is highly valued, as is familiarity with diverse cultural and community contexts, especially within BIPOC communities.
The effective Sexual Assault Therapist will:
- Demonstrates active listening skills with a strong emphasis on cultural responsiveness, empathy, and humility, providing validation to clients of various ethnic and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes.
- Practice self-awareness, honesty, and cultural humility when working with different ethnic and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes.
- Use open-ended questions to help clients identify stressors, triggers, growth-limiting beliefs, and gain understanding of symptomology and needs.
- Consistently adjust the style and tone to communicate effectively and non-judgmentally to clients.
- Utilize silence strategically to encourage clients to expand their understanding and responses.
- Actively seek feedback from clients and staff about performance and make changes efficiently and responsibly.
- Independently manage time with reliable organizational and planning skills.
- Embody professional ethics in mentorship with student interns.
Requirements:
1. A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in counseling or social work is required.
2. Current licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in Texas as LPC, LPC-A, LMSW, or LCSW is required.
3. Fluency in the Spanish language is highly preferred.
4. You must have an existing Clinical Supervisor if you are not fully licensed in Texas.
5. Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches for the treatment of acute and chronically traumatized crime victims is highly preferred.
6. Experience facilitating therapeutic groups as a clinician is strongly preferred.
7. Passion for learning and adapting practices that support the well-being of clients from diverse and underserved communities.
8. High energy and desire to learn alongside other staff therapists and agency members to offer highest quality of care to clients served.
9. Ongoing attention, practice, and assessment of physical, emotional, and psychological self-care is required. This may include individual therapy, internal and external coping skills, and a working support system.
10. Must complete 40 hours of mandated OAG Sexual Assault Advocate training during upcoming quarterly cycle of training. If training is more than one month in the future, informal training will begin before OAG scheduled training.
