Career Services: Career Services (CS) provides comprehensive career services and programs to assist a diverse student population in developing, evaluating, and effectively initiating and implementing career, education, and employment decisions and plans through collaborative internal partnerships with UCF administrators, faculty, and staff, as well as effective external partnerships with key employers. The Opportunity: UCF's Career Services seeks a Student Career Counselor I to join their team! The Counselor develops, implements, facilitates, and evaluates various programs focused on assisting students in successfully integrating into the University environment. Focuses on students' career development by working with students, alumni, and/or potential employers. Provides counseling to students, develops programs and activities to assist students with career development. Responsibilities: Counselor delivers targeted services to a growing population of over 70,000 students. Services include career assessment, counseling and advising, presenting workshops and seminars, conducting outreach presentations, managing programs, and development of student resources. Counselor will provide direct career counseling to individuals and groups to help them make effective decisions regarding academic and professional goals interpret individual personality, interest, skills, and values assessment. Counselor will administer and interpret individual personality, interest, skills, and values assessment instruments to include the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator as well as utilized computerized Career Guidance Systems such as Focus 2 and O’Net. Counselor works closely with the Career Development Team on special projects and assignments. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Career Development and supervise and provide training to undergraduate and graduate student employees. The counselor may manage one or more career development programs or projects to include planning, needs assessment, budgeting, marketing, evaluating outcomes evaluations and overall program delivery. In addition to diverse student populations, the counselor would be collaborating with student services staff, faculty, academic departments, alumni, and employers on a regular basis. Counselor may be assigned as a liaison to academic programs, special populations, student organizations or student support offices which can include development of targeted services along with identification of career-related materials and resources. Counselor serves on various university committees as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's and 2 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree and 0 years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, counselor education, psychology, or other appropriate area from an accredited institution and one year of related experience. Experience with career services (can include graduate student experience or other relevant professional experience). Experience developing career programs and demonstrated aptitude for organizing programs to include marketing, planning, and implementing programs or projects. Experience using technology in career counseling (assessment tools, academic and career information, job search assistance), social media, presentation development, data management and reporting. Skills or aptitude for developing and maintaining relationships - strong team member skills. Proven communication skills, particularly with diverse groups to include faculty, employees, and students. Ability to work independently as well as with self-directed teams.
