Join UChicago Medicine, as a Student Pharmacy Intern on the Meds2Beds team in the Pharmacy Department. In this role as a Student Pharmacy Intern, you will have the opportunity to improve your pharmacotherapeutic knowledge and gain experience and confidence in counseling patients across a wide variety of disease states. You will gain exposure to inpatient care, outpatient pharmacy, and transitions of care. The student intern plays a key role on our transitions of care Meds2Beds team in order to provide optimal patient care at the time of discharge. UChicago Medicine is dedicated to providing patients with the personal service necessary to ensure that they achieve the most benefit from their medication therapy.
Job Summary
The Department of Pharmacy at UChicago Medicine is seeking highly motivated pharmacy students who desire to further develop their communication, interdisciplinary, and pharmacotherapeutic knowledge and skills. The Student Pharmacy Intern role allows an opportunity for personal growth and multidisciplinary collaboration, while supporting a team that is dedicated to enhancing lives and being at the forefront of medicine. As an intern with Meds2Beds, you will deliver medications to patient bedside and provide patient counseling prior to discharge from the hospital. This is a great opportunity for students to work in a large, academic medical center and serve a diverse patient population. Student Pharmacy Interns will gain valuable experience that will strengthen their candidacy when applying for future jobs and/or residencies.
Essential Job Functions
- Fill prescriptions in the DCAM Outpatient Pharmacy
- Deliver medications throughout the hospital to patient bedside
- Provide counseling to patients who are discharged on new medications
- Provide acute and comprehensive information about medications and address medication concerns of the patient or caregiver
- Interact with members of the interdisciplinary team (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and care coordinators) to collaborate and provide efficient and effective medication therapy management
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License
- Student currently enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred one year of pharmacy experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting
Position Details
- Job Type/FTE: Registry/Part-Time
- Shift: part-time/weekends, you may work Saturday, Sunday, both days, or neither day on any given weekend
- Unit/Department: Meds2Beds Pharmacy
- CBA Code: Non-Union
In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 8-16 hours per week. We anticipate that you will be working day shifts, between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm. We anticipate that you will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus.

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
