About the Department

The Center for Clinical Genetics and Genomics is a multi-disciplinary team practicing personalized medicine with the goal to reduce the burden of genetic conditions through individualized early detection, prevention, treatment, education and research. The CCGG was founded in the Section of Genetic Medicine in the Department of Medicine and serves as an umbrella program for clinical genetics at the institution. Dr. Sonia Kupfer serves as the inaugural Director of the CCGG under the leadership of Dr. Yoav Gilad, Section Chief of Genetic Medicine. The Center is active in clinical care, research and training related to clinical genetics. As part of the educational mission, the CCGG is developing a master's level training program for genetic counseling. Dr. Ryan Longman and Dr. Kupfer are currently leading this effort and will serve as Medical Directors of the training program. As stipulated by the Genetic Counseling Accreditation Board, a Program Director for the master's training program is required with specific job requirements (certified genetic counselor) and duties as detailed in the job description. The Program Director is an essential leader in the program, and this position must be filled prior to applying for accreditation.

Job Summary

The Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago is seeking a Program Director to lead the new Master's Program in Genetic Counseling. Directors may not serve as program leaders for another program.

Responsibilities

The Program Director is responsible for maintaining program compliance with the standards; developing, reviewing, and revising the program's strategic plan.

Providing academic advising, as well as monitoring, evaluating, and remediating student performance.

Long-term planning to ensure the program's fiscal stability.

Serving as the primary contact for communication with ACGC.

Communicating with the ACGC about compliance with the standards, such as significant staffing, administrative, financial, and / or fieldwork training changes.

Incorporation of principles of diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice; and fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals are valued and supported.

Provides specialized professional expertise in program management. Implements plans for educational programs and initiatives and acts as a liaison between the program and program participants.

Plans and develops program objectives and / or content. Researches and identifies trends and needs and establishes program directions accordingly.

Develops and administers program budgets and recommends or makes budgetary recommendations.

Serves as a key resource for program information. Resolves problems or questions referred by program staff, University administrators, or other contingencies.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education :

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience :

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education :

Advanced degree in the discipline of genetic counseling.
