Position Summary
The Office of Alumni Relations at the UConn Foundation strives to connect alumni, support students, and strengthen UConn through a variety of programs and services.
The Alumni Affinity Programs Student Worker will be a part of a team focused on building, managing, and supporting interest and identity-based affinity programs with the explicit goal of increasing alumni engagement across diverse populations. These populations include (but are not limited to) communities of color, first-generation alums, and LGBTQ alums. The Alumni Affinity Programs Student Worker’s primary role includes assisting in identity-based affinity program and event planning and management, supporting alumni outreach and relationship building, and working in the organization’s internal database and event management system.
The Alumni Affinity Programs Student Worker will report to the Director of Alumni Relations, Diverse Alumni Communities Engagement, but will work with multiple staff members as needed. This position is based out of the Storrs campus, but some remote work may be possible.
Graduate student preferred, but undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in event planning, preparation, and management
- Print rosters and nametags
- Prepare event materials
- Send event supplies to alumni affinity group leaders
- Conduct alumni outreach
- Communicate with relevant campus partners
- Assist with event set up and takedown
- Staff events on campus as well as off campus, if transportation permits
- Work in all Foundation databases and event management systems
- Assist with online event registration development via the Stova online system
- Monitor event registration on an ongoing basis
- Assist with other events and programs as needed
- Support UConn Gives crowd funding campaign and other fundraising initiatives
- Serve as a liaison for campus partners participating in UConn Gives and provide meeting and training opportunities to ensure staff have the resources and information needed to engage their alumni audiences
- Create a plan to promote UConn Gives and other opportunities for philanthropy to alumni affinity groups and audiences
- Assist in developing strategies to build new relationships with alumni, and expand engagement opportunities for alumni of color and LGBTQ alums
- Expand programming offerings
- Provide alumni with opportunities to participate in cultural center traditions and peak programming
- Coordinate opportunities to recognize graduating seniors affiliated with cultural centers and learning communities to welcome them to the alumni community
Learning Opportunities
The Student Worker will gain valuable professional experience in event planning, alumni networking, logistics, campus partnership management, constituent engagement, and alumni outreach. They will be invited to participate in planning meetings with staff as schedules allow.
Experience and Skills
Key Competencies
- Must be available for at least two semesters starting Fall 2024
- Ability to work at least 10 hours per week; must have availability on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
- Some early morning/evening/weekend work may be required
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proficiency in Microsoft Teams preferred but not required
- Must have demonstrated interest or experience in event planning and/or execution
- Must have demonstrated understanding, ability to work with, and desire to serve diverse populations
- Values diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
Education and Experience
- Enrollment at the University of Connecticut
- A student in good standing related to grade point average and student code of conduct
