The Department of Health & Human Physiology (HHP) is seeking an instructor with a focus on Anatomy laboratory courses. This is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment for one academic year beginning in August 2025 and is renewable. Duties of this position include teaching a variety of introductory and advanced human anatomy laboratory courses within the Health and Human Physiology curriculum. The primary focus is on anatomy labs (HHP: 1110/2110, HHP:3115, HHP:4110) with a possibility to teach Physiology labs (HHP:1310/2410, HHP:3550) as needed.
The instructor will teach several sections of laboratory courses, hold office hours, attend/ lead lab meetings, grade student assignments, and professionally communicate with students and the instructional team. The instructor will work closely with the course supervisor and support staff to efficiently run HHP teaching labs.
The hours of this position are based on the times of assigned lab sections, scheduled office hours, and other lab meetings. Therefore, this position does not have a consistent weekly schedule.

The department has shown significant growth over the past several years and is currently the largest department at the University of Iowa with 2400 undergraduate students across six majors including Human Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Studies, Health Promotion, Sport and Recreation Management, and Therapeutic Recreation. To accommodate this growth, a new six-story, $249 million Health Science Academic Building that will house the Departments of Health and Human Physiology, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, and Communication Sciences and Disorders, is scheduled to be completed in 2026. This new building will become a hub for innovative teaching and learning, community outreach and engagement, experiential education, and cutting-edge biomedical, clinical, and community health-related research.

Education Requirement:
- Minimum of a BA/BS degree in biological sciences, anatomy and/or physiology, exercise science, or related field.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with anatomy laboratory courses.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Experience working with animal and/or human specimens. Willingness to work with human and/or animal specimens is a condition of employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience teaching or assisting with cat or other non-human/mammal dissection-based laboratories.
- Experience with human dissection-based laboratories.
- Experience with HHP-specific 3000-level or above anatomy courses or equivalent.
- Experience teaching or assisting in science-based courses
- Experience with HHP-specific 3000-level physiology laboratory courses or equivalent.
