Open Rank Instructional Track Faculty – General Education Literature Program

The Department of English at the University of Iowa invites applications for two faculty positions to work full time in our General Education Literature Program. This is an instructional track position with opportunity for promotion. Teaching will be at the undergraduate level, with a normal load of four courses per semester. This track does not include the possibility of tenure, but otherwise parallels the tenure track with various ranks (Assistant Professor of Instruction, Associate Professor of Instruction, Professor of Instruction). More information about the Instructional Track can be found on the Provost’s website at https://provost.uiowa.edu/instructional-faculty-track-appointments.

Profile of the General Education Literature Program:
The General Education Literature Program is housed in the English Department and is responsible for the design and teaching of the Interpretation of Literature Course, which is required of almost all undergraduates in the College of Liberal Arts, typically in their freshman or sophomore year. It is a discussion-based class (enrollment capped at 24) for non-English majors with a focus on teaching close-reading skills and writing critical essays. Instructors should be capable of addressing multiple learning styles, scaffolding assignments, offering clear and frequent feedback on writing, and sparking student interest in diverse readings of historical and generic breadth.

Salary is commensurate.

Candidates must submit applications online at: http://jobs.uiowa.edu . Search requisition #75485.

Applications must include:
(1) a cover letter; (2) a CV; (3) evidence of teaching effectiveness (4); three letters of recommendation (5) student evaluations from two most recent courses taught . Review of applications will begin February 1, 2025.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check and credential/education verification.
