The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Iowa invites applications for an Open Rank Instructional Track Faculty. The appointment will begin August 20, 2025. The candidate’s primary responsibility will be teaching undergraduate courses that fulfill general education and departmental requirements in sociology and criminology. The initial appointment is for one year (2025-26), renewable for up to two years (2026-27 and 2027-28), and renewable thereafter in three-year increments, pending collegiate approval and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This track does not include the possibility of tenure, but otherwise parallels the tenure track with various ranks (Assistant Professor of Instruction, Associate Professor of Instruction, Professor of Instruction). The letter of interest should address the candidate’s teaching experience with specific reference to the candidate’s ability to teach core undergraduate courses (e.g., Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Criminology, Contemporary Social Problems, Sociological Theory, Social Inequality, Race and Ethnicity, Capstone courses for graduating majors). We also require three letters of professional reference, and you will be asked to provide the email address for your references in the online process. Your references will be sent a request to upload their reference letter to our system. These letters should address your teaching experience and other abilities relevant to the position.

Education Requirement:

- Demonstrated evidence of an excellent record of teaching.
- Demonstrated evidence of a wide range of teaching experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience working with teaching assistants in a supervisory capacity.
