Position Overview

The Lee Engagement Coordinator for Study and Learning Centers will coordinate activities across the Museum’s academic suite, which includes the Ingrid and J.K. Lee and Stephen H. Goddard Study Centers, and Jack & Lavon Brosseau Center for Learning. With the Lee Study Center specifically, the Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations as well as developing and facilitating innovative cross-disciplinary engagement opportunities that realize the full potential of this hybrid classroom space. Designed to support the temporary display of three-dimensional objects, textiles, and Asian paintings, the Lee Study Center is a 2000-square-foot object-based learning facility prominently located within the galleries. The Coordinator will also assist with the Museum’s two other flexible teaching and learning spaces, the Goddard Study Center, a more intimate space for collection access, and the Brosseau Center for Learning, a flexible gallery for short-term collection installations. Integral to these duties includes handling a wide variety of museum collection artworks, cataloguing, and other related duties. As the Coordinator becomes familiar with the Museum’s 48,000 object collection, they may also work with instructors to select artworks for study in line with their curricular goals. Part of the Academic Programs and Public Practice team, the Lee Engagement Coordinator reports to the Curator for Works on Paper and works collaboratively with colleagues across Academic Programs, Public Practice, Curatorial, and Collections.

Job Description

45% Academic Suite Engagement

  • Coordinate, schedule and oversee all activities in the Lee Study Center, including university and school class visits, research visits, tours, and various public programs.
  • Maintain clear communication between all external and internal parties for classes and programs, including task management related to artwork selection, vetting, and transportation across the academic suite.
  • Greet and orient instructors, students, researchers, and other visitors, and monitor and safeguard collections in the Lee Study Center during visits.
  • Ensure the special care and security of collections across the academic suite.
  • Execute innovative and creative programming as well as teaching and learning opportunities that leverage the offerings of the Lee Study Center in consultation with colleagues.
  • Coordinate organization of materials for classes and presentations across the academic suite and produce object checklists and other supporting materials as required.
  • Maintain equipment across the academic suite, including cleaning tables and arranging furniture.
  • Assist the Museum’s IT Technician with audiovisual and IT equipment (setup & troubleshooting) across the academic suite.
  • Assist with the Museum’s Open Fridays program in the Goddard Study Center and other programs as needed.
  • Compile and present data related to academic use of the collection across the academic suite.
  • Support the planning and implementation of Museum initiatives related to the academic suite.


45% Collections assistance and data management

  • Work closely with colleagues to make collection artworks accessible across the academic suite.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure that artworks are handled and displayed in a safe and secure manner, facilitating preservation and access according to professional and institutional standards.
  • Receive and promptly process and manage all art requests using the collection management system, serving as the point person for artwork checklists across the academic suite.
  • Coordinate and assist with the movement, staging, installation, and deinstallation of artworks across the academic suite.
  • Assist with cataloging works on paper using the collection management database.
  • Assist with absorbing new works on paper acquisitions into the collection.
  • Update collection records using the collection management database.
  • Assist with coordination of photography for works on paper.


10% Other Duties

  • Assist with occasional evening programs.
  • Use University and Museum-adopted collection management, project management, and communications technologies; participate in related trainings and refreshers
  • Participate in staff meetings and scheduled all-staff trainings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.


Position Requirements

  • The ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 30 lbs with or without accommodation.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, education, or related field AND 3 years of related professional experience OR Master’s degree.
  • Prior work experience requiring strong organizational skills, communication skills, and attention to detail, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, as evidenced by application materials.
  • 6 months experience with data entry and databases, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience handling artworks, including paintings, sculpture, works on paper, and/or textiles, as evidenced by application materials.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines, as evidenced in application materials.
  • 1 year of Database experience, including data entry.
  • Flexible, responsible, self-motivated, and able to work independently and collaboratively, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience with art from East Asia, and/or East Asian language ability, as evidenced in application materials.
  • Classroom teaching experience as evidenced in application materials.
  • Previous work in a museum setting, as evidenced in application materials
  • Experience working with a wide range of students and museum visitors, as evidenced in application materials
  • Experience with MuseumPlus or other proprietary collection management databases, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience with classroom audiovisual technology and troubleshooting technological issues, as evidenced by application materials.
