Role Summary

Performs technical work in the support of the marketing team.

The Marketing Specialist I performs technical work in support of the marketing team. Candidates should be skilled writers and creative thinkers who are adept at developing content that resonates with prospective and current students as well as alumni, faculty, and staff in a unique, differentiating way.

The Marketing Specialist collaborates with and supports professionals from other internal units — including video, photography, design, web, strategic communications, and news and media relations — to coordinate, create, produce, and distribute marketing materials across all owned channels. The person in this position will be responsible for ensuring that all materials adhere to university brand standards and ensure that all materials are maintained, organized, and archived accordingly. In addition, the Marketing Specialist drafts and shares reports with marketing team leadership. Candidates may work with tools such as Sprout Social, Cascade8 (content management), myEmma, and Canva among others.

Examples of Work Performed

The University of Mississippi is seeking a Marketing Specialist responsible for supporting the marketing team within University Marketing & Communications with a number of different initiatives and projects to generate support and build brand affinity on behalf of the university by :

1. Drafting meeting notes and prepares materials

2. Summarizes and shares data

3. Assists in developing strategies and campaigns

4. Ensures promotional materials are maintained.

5. Modifies materials as directed by professional staff.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Drafts meeting notes and prepares materials including updated project benchmarks and research information to support marketing projects, campaigns, and work unit personnel.

2. Summarizes market tracking and research data from distributed market surveys.

3. Assists in developing creative marketing strategies and multimedia campaigns by creating and distributing draft materials to a variety of project participants.

4. Ensures promotional materials are maintained.

5. Modifies materials as directed by professional staff.

6. Schedules meetings of project stakeholders, including external vendors as required to maintain project timelines and responds to initial questions.
