What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at The University of New Mexico?
Position Summary
To work as a UNM Lifeguard you must maintain patron surveillance of the facility while enforcing rules and regulations effectively as directed by the University and State of New Mexico Environment Department. Must be able to : spot dangers and potential hazards to prevent serious injury or accident; control and report unruly behavior; maintain accurate detailed documentation of headcount, first aid practices and others; perform cleaning duties. Must act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Must provide emergency care and treatment as a team as set by American Red Cross standards and procedures. Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications
Must be able to swim 500 yards continuously while demonstrating rhythmic breathing.
Must be able to obtain a 10 pound brick from a depth of 14 feet.
Must be able to tread water with a 10 pound brick without the use of hands
Must be able to swim a ten pound brick 25 yards without th aid of hands
Must possess or be able to possess Lifeguarding certification for deep water through the American Red Cross
