Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The mission of the Division of Student Success is to collaborate with the university community to deliver targeted, impactful services that enhance the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student population. Dedicated to fostering student success, the division provides leadership, guidance, and transitional support designed to equip students with the tools and resources they need from their first day on campus to the moment they receive their diploma, ensuring comprehensive support throughout the entire student lifecycle. This division includes the offices of University Advising, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience, Academic Support Programs, and Educational Opportunity Programs such as TRiO Student Support Services and McNair Scholars.

As part of the Division of Student Success, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience (NST&FYE) is committed to providing a comprehensive and collaborative approach to ensure the success and retention of our new students. NST & FYE helps new students and their families navigate the transition to college by connecting them to the people, programs, and resources at UNC Greensboro which provide a solid foundation for student success.

NST & FYE offers a range of programs and resources for new students delivered through orientation programs, transition courses, shared learning experiences, and peer support. Drawing from extensive knowledge about the first year experience, NST & FYE educates the campus community about the unique and evolving needs of our new students and their families in order for all of us to provide optimum support inside and outside the classroom.

NST & FYE ultimately encourages new students to explore UNCG, connect to its many resources, and excel academically and personally, while cultivating a sense of Spartan pride and affinity for UNC Greensboro.
Position Summary
The Coordinator develops, markets, implements, and assesses programs for online orientation, first-year engagement for fully online students, and SOAR. This position oversees the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of online peer mentors and manages the mentorship program for online students.

The Coordinator provides logistical support for key first-year engagement events, including SOAR, NAV1GATE, and other departmental initiatives. They supervise one graduate student and a team of undergraduate students, ensuring effective support for online student engagement programs.

This role represents the department at university-wide events such as Student Affairs and Admissions events and actively participates in campus committees. Additionally, the Coordinator manages program budgets, evaluates initiatives for student impact and return on investment (ROI), and contributes to improvement planning to enhance outcomes.

The Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of New Student Transitions within the New Student Transitions and First Year Experience (NST&FYE) department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree from a four-year university or college in the area of higher education administration, college student personnel, student development, or a related field or Bachelor's degree from a four-year university or college with two years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to develop and implement presentations and workshops to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of technologies, including word processing, excel, e-mail, PowerPoint and social media.
  • Be available and willing to work irregular office hours during certain times of the year.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in developing and implementing programs in support of student transition, success, and retention. Experience developing and supporting diverse student leaders and the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate training for student staff.
  • Experience supervising and/or advising undergraduate or graduate students.
  • Experience in large-scale programming planning, implementation, and evaluation.
