Data Scientist
We are seeking highly skilled and motivated personnel to work on high-throughput data analyses and development of computational pipelines for data processing and visualization. We are highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, and the candidate will be interacting with experimental/ clinical researchers at the VMI. The novel hypotheses generated from the work may be tested by experiments.
Major duties:
- Preprocessing and exploratory analysis of high-throughput omics data (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, metabolomics) and clinical data
- Installation and testing of publicly available bioinformatics tools
- Clinical and demographic data extraction from public and internal databases
- Construction of in-house database and computational data processing pipeline
Assists in the execution of research objectives, data collection, and data management. Performs routine procedures, statistical analysis, scientific analysis, and reporting. Integrates data and data sets, performs descriptive and exploratory analysis, and creates routine reports and analysis reporting tools. Utilizes statistical software and adheres to all protocols.
- Fluency in Python or R programming languages
- Basic knowledge of statistics, mathematics and molecular biology
- Motivation to meet deadlines
This position is mostly sedentary; however the candidate may need to go to university offices for meetings, lectures, division seminars.
