Police Officer/ Academy (UPG)
Gains the necessary skills to successfully graduate from the Police Academy and attain MPOETC certification. Accompanies police officers in conducting patrols, enforcing laws, and responding to calls. Develops and enhances skills and understanding of laws, policies, and procedures. Recruits potential candidates, provides program information, and attends promotional events.
- Develop skills in law enforcement.
- Accompany officers in conducting foot and vehicular patrols of a university campus.
- Build strong relationships in a multi-cultural environment.
- Grow a comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal laws.
- Gain skills in police reporting, investigation, and court testimony.
- Speak with potential candidates regarding the program over phone, email, and/or department sanctioned social media accounts.
- Attend events including tabling, career fairs, and information sessions to recruit potential new candidates at other campuses and in Pennsylvania.
- Produce written or video materials detailing their experience in the police academy and/or Pitt Police Training Program Salary & Compensation.
- The successful candidate will receive an hourly Academy rate.
- An educational expense agreement will compensate Act 120 Academy Tuition, room, and meal plan.
- Ability to pass an academy entrance exam involving a 1.5-mile run, push-ups and sit-ups.
- Demonstrate safe operation of a motor vehicle, all-terrain vehicle, and bicycle.
