Job Description
The Athletic Trainer, Director will oversee and lead all aspects of the athletic trainer's day to day scheduling, implementation of procedures and follow up needs of student athletes. The director will also be responsible for the health, strength, conditioning, mental, physical, and social well-being of student-athletes through training and education. This role is the first line of intervention and refers student-athletes to appropriate practitioners as warranted.
Responsibilities
- Meets with Athletic Director bi-monthly to establish a working schedule for athletic trainers.
- Schedules team and / or individual physicals at the start of every year to ensure proper protocol is followed for each student athlete before practice begins.
- Maintains documentation for all athletic staff CPR / AED certification as well as communication when updated training is needed.
- Attends yearly athletic trainers association convention to remain up to date on trending education and procedures in athletic training.
- Works with student-athletes in the clinic setting as well as in the venue of each sport.
- Meets with coaches and practitioners on the physical status of athletes to develop and implement a standardized treatment plan.
- Evaluates athletes, develops exercise programs, and advises athletes on proper techniques.
- Schedules and implements rehabilitation and treatment plans as needed.
- Attends practices and games to observe performance and respond to incidents, injuries, or emergency care.
- Assesses and / or evaluates the need for referral for further assessment of injuries.
- Maintains treatment databases.
- Maintains documentation of illnesses, injuries, and progress notes.
- Travels with team (when necessary) to athletic events.
- Develops educational programming for holistic athletic growth.
- Accompanies student-athletes referred for specialized treatment.
Qualifications
Certified athletic trainer with at least 5 years' experience in a high school or college setting. Masters Degree and CPR / AED Certification required.
Ability to direct and work together with the athletic training staff daily. Knowledge of up to date procedures in athletic training and the ability to transfer that knowledge to other trainers on staff.
Preferred experience with multiple different athletic teams, to enhance knowledge of all student athlete potential needs.
