Job Summary
The Director for Internal Communications and Strategy (Program) reports to the Senior Associate VP of Marketing, Messaging, and Engagement and Chief Communications Officer. Leads internal communications strategy and operations to support internal stakeholder engagement. Responsible for the development implementation and assessment of internal communications plans and the development of timely, engaging, and effective content for university faculty, staff, and students across internal communications channels managed by MME .
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or related equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in developing or implementing strategic, internal, or executive communications plans and content; reporting; journalism; public relations; or public affairs, supported by a portfolio of writing samples, as requested, or seven (7) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, English, marketing or related field.
- Experience with developing and/or managing internal communications plans, strategies and assessment methodologies and technologies.
- Experience with developing executive communications.
- Project management of communications plans.
- Experience with web content strategy.
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Develops, implements, and assesses internal communications plans to communicate to University students, faculty, and staff.
- Develops key messages, identifies primary and secondary audiences, proposes appropriate communications channels and tactics, identifies audience segmentation, and develops synchronized timelines.
- Manages assigned projects ensuring that client needs are accommodated, deadlines are met, all content meets the highest standards and is thoroughly fact-checked and documented. Identifies measures of effectiveness and/or performance when feasible.
- Serves as MME’s internal communications POC to business unit/divisional/college leaders and communications liaisons o ensure University internal communications are integrated and synchronized.
- Serves as a member on university committees related to internal communications.
- Actively seeks opportunities to support internal communications requirements of campus business units/divisions.
- Coordinates office support for major campus events.
- Manages and leads assigned staff and student workers to successfully produce high quality and accurate internal communications content and products.
- Contributes editorial content, integrates internal communications plans, and supervises the effective use and timely distribution of the University’s internal electronic communications products across available channels.
- Assesses existing communications channels and plans for the development of new tools and channels to facilitate internal communication by MME , University senior leadership and University business units/divisions.
- Works closely with leadership and cross-functional areas within the MME team (including, editorial, online communications, creative services, multi-media, social media, and media relations) to develop high-quality and impactful internal communications content, products, and plans for university initiatives.
- Works closely with MME digital communications in updating content for MME -managed websites impacting internal audiences, the development and sending of e-publications and mass emails to internal audiences.
- Proposes content, editorial direction and publishing calendar for University’s podcast; coordinates development and production with MME cross-functional teams.
- Under the direction of the Chief Communications Officer or proxy, supports emergency/crisis communications response, including use and management of emergency communications systems used by MME and supports development of timely and accurate content for internal communications channels, often under short deadlines.
