The researchers using the DPRI fish facility (Drs. Ekker, Gray, and Sabharwal) conduct a range of research on the molecular genetics of mitochondrial and spine disorders. We are looking for a manager that has proven experience working in a zebrafish or similar aquatics facility, that has experience managing people for the daily care of an aquatics facility and is interested in providing support for ongoing research endeavors. We also seek to provide you with opportunities to build modern skills in molecular genetics and the use of genome editing approaches using the zebrafish model system. Responsibilities Complete oversight of the day-to-day maintenance and daily care of the facility and animals including: ordering of all supplies, daily feeding, water quality and equipment checks, installation of facility components, animal husbandry and routine colony maintenance for zebrafish, including genotyping and breeding, as necessary. Management and training of trainees and staff for daily maintenance of the facility and feeding of the zebrafish colony. Provides complete support for animal studies protocols (IACUC) and serves as a liaison for all IACUC and AALAS inspections of the fish facility. Skill training and hands on support of ongoing zebrafish projects, including microinjections, cryopreservation, and modern imaging approaches. Must be willing to occasionally work holidays and weekends as needed to care for the facility. Other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in a related field. Must effectively work in groups and independently to maintain the facility and care of animals. Ability to train and manage people to assist in the daily zebrafish facility duties. Ability to provide weekly updates to the fish facility user group and develop standard operating procedures for the facility and animal use committees. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with aquatics facility and use of zebrafish as a model system. Strong ethics in working humanely with animals and ability to perform the above-mentioned techniques with excellent attention to detail. Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience as an aquatics animal technician. Demonstrated management skills, punctuality, good attendance record, careful follow through as instructed, and flexibility.
