Hours: up to 40 hours per week, 1/1 teaching load, exempt.
Required Application Materials:
The Department of History at the University of Texas at San Antonio seeks a historian of early modern or modern Europe for a two-year postdoctoral appointment.
We welcome candidates whose expertise builds on existing departmental strengths in transnational histories of empire, borderlands, and migration, though all specializations will be considered. We particularly encourage scholars focusing on colonial or postcolonial relationships between Europe and Africa to apply. We also welcome candidates whose work will contribute to the department’s growing emphasis in public history and digital humanities. The successful candidate would start in the Fall of 2025. ABDs must have PhD in hand by May 31, 2025, to be eligible for appointment.
The postdoctoral fellow will have 1-1 teaching load during each of two academic years, and is expected to engage in an active and robust research agenda (including manuscript preparation, publication of research, conference presentations, and grant application) and develop an innovative teaching portfolio with emphasis on experiential learning, digital competence, and student research. The appointment will come with an annual salary, full benefits, and a research subsidy. Under UTSA Bridge to Faculty Program https://www.utsa.edu/strategicplan/initiatives/research/strategic-hiring/btf/ this appointment will be eligible for consideration of conversion to a tenure-track faculty position at the end of the two-year period. This program is intended to increase the academic research community by supporting promising scholars and educators from various backgrounds whose life and research experiences will contribute significantly to academic excellence at UTSA and prepare them for future faculty appointment.
