Salary Range: Up to $65,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Job Summary

Essential Functions

To assist in the planning and direction of research and to perform advanced scientific duties requiring special qualifications. Latitude for independent action and decision expected.

Responsible for assisting with the direction of a research program; evaluation, long-term planning, design, implementation, performance, analysis and interpretation of a scientific research project; and for performing complex research assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

This is a temporary position dependent on availability of funds and departmental need.

Core Responsibilities

• Independently perform laboratory experiments or other research that may require intricate or sophisticated techniques.
• Prepare laboratory specimens, which may include live animal handling.
• Set-up, operates and maintains laboratory and field equipment.
• Independently collect, analyze and interpret data.
• Assist in the development and design of research experiments and projects.
• Independently design and implement long-term research plans addressing a given scientific question.
• Prepares specifications and develops techniques.
• Assist in the preparation of grant proposals.
• Oversees the supervision and training of student employees, interns, and volunteers; oversees staff using established procedures; and leads research teams in advanced multi-year research activities.
• Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of research projects including devising new approaches to problems encountered; and prepares progress reports.
• Assist key members of research staff in solving specific problems encountered in project.
• Assume responsibility for acceptance or rejection of results achieved.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication.
• Make and implement purchasing decisions regarding scientific equipment and supplies.
• Provide training and supervision of undergraduate students.
• Presents work as scientific meetings.
• Attend scientific conferences.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in area of specialization or field of assignment.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.
• After hours and weekend work is required on an occasional basis.

Physical Demands:

• Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
