Job Summary
Advise undergraduate School of Nursing students related to all academic requirements. Helps students develop academic goals, ensures students receive guidance in registering for courses, implements retention plans, promotes student success and maintains accurate student advising records for advisees.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Advise students individually and in groups to include prospective students, transfer students, freshman, sophomore, juniors, and seniors seeking an undergraduate degree offered by the School of Nursing.
- Participate in and aid coordination of School and University activities with Director, Department Chairs, Associate Dean, Dean, and other areas and individuals on campus.
- Aid in organization and implementation of recruitment and retention functions for the School of Nursing.
- Work with students on academic probation, suspension, and financial aid contracts to create pathways to graduation.
- Update and maintain accurate electronic student records and advising documentation.
- Utilize software to keep accurate counts on students in the School of Nursing. Use this information to complete semester reports.
- Aid in organization and implementation of recruitment and retention functions for the School of Nursing.
- Generate semester reports related to enrollment numbers, retention numbers, and other student related matters.
- Implement retention plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Two (2) years of experience in academic advising or related field required
- May accept a combination of education and experience
Preferred Education/Experience
- Master’s degree preferred
- Three (3) years of experience in academic advising or related field preferred

- Excellent customer service skills.
- Able to communicate information pertaining to university academic policies to students in a relatable manner.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using standard computer software and databases including Microsoft office, Teams, and student records systems (Peoplesoft, banner, EAB products, etc.).

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
