Job Summary
The Director of Student Accessibility provides leadership in the administration and coordination of accessibility services for all UT Tyler campuses. Ensure that qualified students with disabilities receive equal access to education and educational services, programs and activities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other federal and state laws pertaining to person with disabilities. Provide support to students, faculty and the community to promote student access and success. Assist the university with advancing the educational mission, vision and values while supporting access and equity.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Provide oversight, strategic direction and expertise for the Student Accessibility and Resource Center.
- Ensures university compliance with lawful provisions of equal access, equal opportunity and support services for qualified students.
- Establish, execute and assess strategic initiatives designed to support student success through the delivery of specialized services, data analysis and campus accessibility assessment inside and outside of the classroom.
- Provide leadership and guidance to personnel in the areas of technical support, accessibility, disability eligibility analyses, referrals, exam administration and outreach to provide reasonable accommodations.
- Provide interpretation and guidance to students, faculty and staff by serving as the student campus Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/504 coordinator.
- Collaborate with campus partners, faculty and community to ensure accessibility of campus facilities, quality access, advance technology in the classroom, inform course design, and promote an accessible and inclusive campus community which supports retention and matriculation.
- Develop and implement services, policies, resources and training for the campus community to effectively serve students with disabilities.
- Facilitates testing for external assessments such as CLEP, MAT, TSI/Accuplacer.
- Serves on campus committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with persons with disabilities in a college setting or related field.
- May accept a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Experience with adaptive and assistive technology.
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Demonstrated knowledge of ADA/504 and related disability laws for Higher Education. Knowledge of the types of chronic and temporary disabilities not limited to: Learning, physical, psychological, neurological, sensory, and mobility. Demonstrated experience providing appropriate accommodations services on a university campus. Exceptional problem-solving techniques. Excellent communications, interpersonal, and writing skills. Title IX training Investigative experience related to ADA/504, Title IX, or discrimination complaints. Skilled in public speaking and presenting information in a professional manner, must be able to relate to students, faculty and staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Sensitivity, understanding and respect for diverse academic community of varying social, economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
