Job Summary
The International Student Advisor I is responsible for providing high-level, cross-functional support in the areas of the Office of International Programs, including international student and scholar services, study abroad, Intensive English Language Program (IELI), and passport services.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
- Accurately maintain all aspects of international student records.
- Maintain current and up-to date knowledge of immigration laws, regulations, and policies.
- Ensure compliance of international students such as maintaining status, reinstatement, change of status, OPT, CPT, filing for taxes, health insurance and other critical issues.
- Assist with the planning and coordinating of programs sponsored by the Office of International Programs such as international student orientation
- Develop and coordinate activities, programs, and services to ensure the successful academic and integration of international students within the UT Tyler community.
- Updates the website, assists with development and revision of rules and procedures, and prepare reports.
- Serve as a passport agent.
- Serve as a back-up advisor for study abroad.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree.
- One (1) year experience in higher education.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
