Job Summary
The Student Accessibility Coordinator under the direction of the Director of Student Accessibility, plans and facilitates the implementation of appropriate accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services for students with disabilities. The Coordinator also interprets and ensures UT Tyler's compliance with local, state, and federal laws as they apply to disability and post-secondary educational environments and functions as a resource for staff and faculty throughout the college by providing technical assistance and guidance on how to accommodate and ensure equal access for students.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Meet with prospective and current students with disabilities to discuss accommodation needs and train approved students on SAR case management system.
- Assist students with disabilities so they have equal access to all UT Tyler classes and programs, including acting as liaison between students and instructors, support staff, or other campus resources/services.
- Maintain confidential and appropriate records by documenting communication with and regarding students.
- Provide assistance to students regarding testing accommodations, adaptive technology, equipment demonstration/loan, connecting with campus and community resources, general assistance with accommodations, and other support services as needs dictate.
- Maintain knowledge of current disability laws to ensure compliance.
- Assist in making ADA recommendations to the university.
- Serve on committees and task forces related to accessibility, accommodation, and advocacy for students with disabilities.
- Assist with the creation and implementation of outreach programming on campus and to the community as related to services and activities for students with disabilities.
- Create marketing information describing department's services to encourage students with disabilities to self-identify and provide information to prospective students.
- Offer back-up support to the front desk and testing center as needed Assist Director in data tracking and reporting.
- Facilitate front office operations as needed, including greeting visitors, responding to in-person, email, and phone inquiries.
- Support and advance the UT Tyler strategic plan.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- Demonstrated experience evaluating disability documentation, including psychoeducational, psychological, and medical evaluations, assessing medical and technical evaluations for disability accommodations.
- Experience working directly with individuals who experience disability.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a college/university setting.
- Familiarity with adaptive technology.

- Demonstrated knowledge of disability laws and regulations, including the ADA as amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other staff and faculty.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
