Associate Director of Sponsored Programs:
Manage day-to-day aspects of Pre-Award operations, including providing knowledge in all aspects of sponsored programs activities.

Description of Duties
- Associate Director of Sponsored Programs:
- Leads, coordinates, and supervises day-to-day work of pre-award staff, submission systems, and procedures related to the submission of grant proposals and other funding mechanisms.
- Stays abreast of regulations and guidelines of federal and non-federal agencies.
- Manages assigned pre-award operations to assure institutional and sponsor compliance have been met for budgetary appropriateness and completion of all proposal documents prior to the set deadline.
- Performs personnel administrative functions (hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, providing professional development opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and ensuring department outcomes are achieved in close coordination with the assigned supervisor.
- Ensures accountability, reliable customer service, and streamlining of pre-award operations.
- Oversees the collection, analysis, and presentation of reports, facts, and statistics to support institutional decision making and policy creation to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university rules and regulations.
- Ensures all internal deadlines are met and that proposals are submitted in accordance with guidelines.
- Plans and develops workshops and other institution-wide training sessions regarding institutional and granting agency required research policies and procedures; prepares office publications and announcements.
- In collaboration with Post Award (non-financial) support the implementation of grants upon receipt.
- Aides in the securing of pre-award documents for contracts.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Director of Sponsored Programs:

- Acts as primary agency liaison on all matters regarding pending grants and external funding opportunities
- Performs personnel administrative functions (hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, providing professional development opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and ensuring department outcomes are achieved.
- Collaborates with directors within the Division of Research for strategic planning and continuous quality improvement; develops and implements strategic initiatives.
- Oversees the collection, analysis , and presentation of reports, facts, and statistics to support institutional decision making and policy creation to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university rules and regulations.
- Develops goals and objectives for effective research administration operations.
- Plans and develops workshops and other institution-wide training sessions regarding institutional and granting agency required research policies and procedures; prepares office publications and announcements.
- In collaboration with Post Award (non-financial) support the implementation of grants upon receipt.
- Aides in the securing of pre-award documents for contracts.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Preferred Education
Certified Research Administrator or Master’s degree and/or PhD degree.
Licenses/Certifications
CRA Certification is preferred.
Required Experience
Associate Director of Sponsored Programs:
Four (4) years of the required experience.
Director of Sponsored Programs:
Six (6) years of experience in research administration, including managerial or supervisory experience. Experience in pre and/or post award administration. Working knowledge of federal, state, institutional policies, and guidelines, such as Uniform Guidance, Cost Principals, Audit Requirements and FAR clauses.
Four (4) years of the required experience.
Director of Sponsored Programs:
Six (6) years of experience in research administration, including managerial or supervisory experience. Experience in pre and/or post award administration. Working knowledge of federal, state, institutional policies, and guidelines, such as Uniform Guidance, Cost Principals, Audit Requirements and FAR clauses.
Preferred Experience
Experience in contract review and negotiation.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment. Experience with electronic research administration tools like online databases, submission tools, internet resources, and website development.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
