Scope of Job
Direct the Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program and provide leadership in the School of Medicine for other community health partnership programs that are identified as strategic priorities by the Office of the Dean and the Primary and Community Care Integrated Service Unit (ISU).
Description of Duties
- Provides the leadership, oversight, supervision, and overall direction for the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program and staff in support of the school’s goals and objectives for community engagement.
- Provides leadership and support for advancing the community health partnership priorities identified in the school’s strategic plan.
- Serves as the Principal Investigator for the HRSA-funded AHEC grant and for grants from state agencies, foundations, and other sources that support the community health partnership programs.
- Coordinates closely with the University’s Office of the Vice President for Governmental and Community Relations and the Office of School of Medicine, Director of Research Administration.
- Adheres to all federal funding agency guidelines, policies, fiscal and budgetary accountability, and reporting requirements pertaining to U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) award funds for the AHEC program.
- Adheres to all funding guidelines, policies, fiscal and budgetary accountability, and reporting requirements pertaining to grants from state agencies, foundations, and other sources that support the community health partnership programs.
- Implements and develops as needed applicable contractual agreements, which must include a statement of work, designation of roles and responsibilities, and appropriate financing provisions between the AHEC Program and the governing body of each center located in the community or other relevant party.
- Monitors, evaluates, and reports on its sub-contracted AHEC centers’ activities to ensure centers comply with HRSA requirements.
- Develops strategic partnerships in accordance to HRSA award requirements.
- Provides regular updates on the AHEC and other community health partnership programs.
- Complies with all HRSA and AHEC program reporting and evaluation requirements.
- Responds to all information requests by the established deadline.
- Performs other duties as needed.

General supervision from the Division Chief of Population Health and also the Chair of the Primary and Community Care Integrated Service Unit (ISU).
Supervision Given
Specific supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
Terminal degree in a related field from an accredited University. Must be qualified for a faculty appointment.

Required Experience
Six (6) years of related increasingly responsible professional experience. Grant administration/management experience.
Preferred Experience
Experience obtained in a medical school.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Locations: Edinburg or Harlingen. Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
