Scope of Job
To facilitate Open Educational Resource (OER) adoption, adaptation, and creation at the institution through advocacy, training, outreach, organization, and collaborative efforts with faculty, students, staff, administrators, and the community of open education leaders.
Description of Duties
- Serves as a resource on OER adoption and adaption for faculty. This includes finding and assessing OER materials. Works with faculty members on promoting OER use and adoption.
- Promotes and maintains the Library’s role in Textbook Affordability Projects, including supporting faculty grants for adopting or creating OER.
- Creates and implements resources and programming for faculty, students, and staff on OERs and Open Educational Practices (OEPs).
- Builds the university library’s capacity to support open publishing through software adoption and cross-campus partnerships.
- Creates and tracks metrics for measuring the impact of OER and other textbook affordability initiatives.
- Serves as the primary university library liaison to COLTT (Center for Online Learning and Teaching Technology) on issues of Open Educational Practices.
- Serves as a supporting project manager for the launch of new digital publications.
- Collaborates with colleagues in Scholarly Communications to develop documentation, policy recommendations, and to scope publishing services in accordance with University Marketing and Communications directions.
- Informs authors, editors, and other relevant stakeholders on the definition of scope and objectives for digital publishing projects and connects needs to content, structure, and features of online publications.
- Stays current on best practices to improve and document editorial workflows and processes, and author procedures for preparing and loading content into digital publishing platforms.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Master’s degree in Library Sciences or Education from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications
Preferred: OER Librarianship Certification via Open Textbook Network
Required Experience
Five (5) years of experience in education, including instruction, curriculum planning, and resource evaluation. Experience creating, adapting, or evaluating open educational and open access resources.

Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Other
Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Knowledge of copyright, permissions, and appropriate attribution of CC Licensed materials. Knowledge of emerging trends in Open Education, including curation, re-mixing, re-using, etc. Incorporate research strategies in OER environments, including identification, selection, and access issues (including Accessibility issues) related to content. Knowledge in grassroots, person to person as well as online interaction and community building. Ability to use and adapt to a range of technologies/software.
