Role Overview
The Human Resources Specialist (Student Employment) is responsible for assisting students with employment-related inquiries, directing them to appropriate university resources, and identifying when student employment issues or concerns need to be escalated to the appropriate team member. This role will provide full-cycle employment support, particularly with a focus on student talent acquisition, employment compliance, and offboarding. Specific responsibilities include ensuring proper collection, storing, and maintenance of student employment records, as well as various analytical and reporting tasks related to student employment efforts. Additionally, this role will collaborate with team members in payroll, human resources, student relations, student affairs, the graduate school, and communications, and assist with department efforts such as the new student parent fair, student job fair student orientation, and other efforts.

- Administer student employment modules in the university’s HR system.
- Enter, maintain, and process student employment information, including hourly rates, salaries, work-study awards, time worked, deductions, and address changes.
- Assist with payroll functions, including verifying all earnings, verifying and processing retro payments, fixing processing errors, and answering related questions to student wages.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student employment files, records, and documentation.
- Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of student employment files and records; ensure federal, state, and local law compliance as it pertains to student employment (ex: USCIS Form I-9).
- Perform periodic audits of student employment files and records to ensure all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
- Support student-related events, both on and off campus.
- Provide guidance to stakeholders as it relates to student employment, including on policy and procedure.
- Provides clerical support to the HR department.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have 1 – 3 years of experience working in or supporting student employment or employment in general (recruitment, onboarding, compliance, offboarding), or very closely related area.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- High attention to detail, demonstrated practice of establishing effective priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology and business practices.
- Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, and personnel information systems.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

- Professional experience in assisting a large (500 ) employee base in the capacity of a central service to an organization (i.e. human resources, information technology, etc.).
- Professional experience working in human resources.
- Professional experience working in higher education.
- Professional experience with highly sensitive or confidential information.
- Project management experience.
