The Up Center is the oldest and largest child and Family Services agency in Hampton Roads and has been part of our community since 1883. As one of the largest non-profit providers of evidence-based mental health services in our region we provide personal and innovative services to approximately 10,000 children and adults each year.

Home visiting is a cornerstone of our mission to support pregnant and new parents. Our Early Childhood Home Visiting (ECHV) team serves families in Norfolk and Portsmouth through evidence-based programs—Parents as Teachers (PAT), Healthy Families (HF), and Doula services that promote infant and child wellness, early learning, and abuse and neglect prevention.

Position Summary
The Director of Prevention Services provides strategic leadership, reflective supervision and administrative oversight of our ECHV programs. This role champions a positive team culture, ensures program fidelity and compliance, and drives performance toward long-term impact and sustainability. The Director represents The Up Center with stakeholders and partners to grow and evolve home visiting services in our region.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead curiosity and innovation in community-responsive, adaptive service delivery.
- Model and cultivate a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Supervise and develop program supervisors and team members, including volunteers.
- Ensure fidelity to PAT and HF models and maintain compliance with program standards.
- Engage in program delivery through home visit shadowing, client and community events, and case support as needed.
- Lead crisis response and support efforts.
- Lead strategic planning and operational execution for Prevention Services.
- Lead the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process focusing on service excellence.
- Collaborate with the Grants Manager and CFO on reporting and budget oversight.
- Effectively manage and prioritize multiple grants with varying degrees of complexity and projects by developing detailed project plans, establishing timelines, coordinating resources, and monitoring progress to ensure all deliverables are completed on time and in alignment with organizational goals.
- Serve as a thought leader and advocate in local coalitions and collaborative efforts.
- Build and maintain strong referral networks and community partnerships.
- Promote a "no wrong door" approach to family services.
- Foster resource-sharing collaborations that enhance client access and support.
- Master’s in human services or related field preferred; Bachelor’s with 3 years of relevant experience accepted.
- Minimum 3 years' experience supervising complex, community-based programs.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed, person-centered care.
- Knowledge of mental health, family dynamics, child development, parenting education.
- Passion for delivering high-quality, client-centered services in diverse communities.

- Willingness to travel locally and occasionally out-of-state for training.
