What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gardener/Horticulturalist/Garden Ecologist position at The Valley Gardener?
The Valley Gardener is a prominent garden design studio in the Hudson Valley caring for over 50 gardens, including private residences and local businesses. Our team works with clients from concept to installation, creating sustainable gardens and landscapes with an emphasis on ecological landscape design and organic horticultural sustainability.
The Valley Gardener is seeking gardeners to join our team for the 2025 season with potential for long-term growth within our company. We are a growing team, working together to care for our gardens.
- Must possess some knowledge of plants, and interest for continued horticultural learning
- Positive attitude and energetic disposition
- Reliable, punctual, trustworthy
- Ability to be flexible where priorities and schedules sometimes shift due to variables like weather and demand
- Practice garden care - planting, dividing, weeding, mulching, pruning, deadheading, watering, etc. using best horticultural practices
- Monitor for pests and diseases
- Work in conjunction with other gardeners and take feedback, training, and instruction, while also working independently
- Meticulous and detail-oriented. Having a high standard for professionalism, quality and cleanliness while working with high-end clientele & properties
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform strenuous labor in all weather conditions
- Unloading and loading of materials, tools, supplies
- Valid driver’s license and own transportation required. Clients are within approximate 30 mile radius of Rhinebeck
- Compensation based on experience
- Expected weekly hours and schedules range seasonally. We anticipate 30-40 hrs/wk, mid-March-November
