Job Summary:

The Quality & Accounting Associate plays a key role in supporting both the financial and internal audit functions at Verdes Cannabis. This position ensures accurate financial transactions, assists with compliance monitoring, and helps optimize operational processes. Reporting primarily to the Quality Manager, with additional support to the Staff Accountant, this role will support accounts payable, receivable, reconciliations, and credit card oversight while also assisting with internal audits, process reviews, and compliance initiatives. By collaborating with cross-functional teams, the Quality & Accounting Associate will help strengthen financial accuracy, enhance internal controls, and improve operational efficiency across the organization.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Audit, Compliance & Quality Support (66.6%)
    •       Assist the Quality Manager in conducting audits (internal and external) and support corrective and preventative actions.
    •       Assist with compliance reviews to ensure all operations comply with New Mexico RLD CCD regulations and our Quality Management System.
    •      Support documentation and enforcement of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) across departments.
    •       Help track nonconformance reporting and corrective actions and ensure timely follow-up on quality issues.
    •       Assist in conducting process audits for accounting and operational workflows to identify inefficiencies.
    •       Maintain organized records for compliance reporting and internal quality tracking.
    •      Support operational teams with inventory and compliance checks as needed.
    •       Support staff education on quality procedures, best practices, and regulatory updates.
    • Accounting Support (33.3%)
    •      Support accounts payable (AP), including new vendor onboarding, invoice entry, vendor payments, and responding to inquiries.
    •      Support accounts receivable (AR), including new customer onboarding, invoice entry, tracking/receiving payments, preparing deposits, and following up on outstanding invoices.
    •      Oversee credit card transactions, ensuring receipt capture, expense justifications, and compliance with corporate policies.
    •      Support month-end close activities, including bank reconciliations, expense allocations, and    journal entries.
    •       Assist in maintaining accounting records and financial documentation in QuickBooks Online and other platforms.
    •       Support procurement-related tasks, including managing user permissions in Order.co and assisting with vendor invoicing.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications:
    •       Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
    •      1-3 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration.
    •      Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and credit card management.
    •      Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
    •      Basic understanding of internal auditing or quality control processes is a plus.
    •       Ability to manage multiple tasks across different functions efficiently.
    •      Experience with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and other accounting software.
    •       Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    •      Experience in retail or manufacturing environments.
    •      Familiarity with 280E tax implications in the cannabis industry.
    •      Experience with internal audit, quality assurance, or compliance reporting.
    •       Ability to learn and implement new software tools quickly.
  • Computer Preferred Qualifications:
    •      Qualio or familiarity with other Quality management software
    •      QuickBooks
    •      Microsoft Office / Particularly Excel
    •      CRM
    •      HRIS
    •      Ability to learn new software as implemented
  • Physical and Emotional Requirements:
    •      Emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness, relationship management, tact, diplomacy
    •       Must be able to sit for long periods of time, 8 – 10 hours multiple days in a row
    •      Must be able to present complex information to groups of people
    •      Must be able to be physically present in the administrative office
    •      Ability to handle high stress situations, ambiguity and changing priorities
    •      Must be able to tolerate a reasonable amount of work stress

 

 

Compensation/Hours:

Compensation - DOE; 40 hours/wk., Required Mon – Fri, some weekends and holidays
