This role requires a hands-on leader who will manage coaching staff, athletic facilities, budgeting, event planning, and regulatory compliance. The AD will also oversee fundraising initiatives, including the All Sports Booster Club and the annual Knight Golf Classic.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and supervise a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate athletic and PE program.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to implement a strategic vision for athletics at The Village School.
- Represent the school in conference and FHSAA meetings, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Hire, develop, and evaluate coaching staff to uphold high standards of leadership and mentorship.
- Oversee budget preparation and financial management for the athletic department.
- Maintain and manage athletic uniforms, equipment, and facilities, ensuring safety and upkeep.
- Coordinate and schedule athletic events, games, and practices, avoiding conflicts in facility use.
- Mediate disputes between athletes, parents, and coaches to ensure a positive sports environment.
- Ensure student-athlete academic eligibility and compliance with participation requirements.
- Manage athletic communications, including reporting achievements and updating the school’s website.
- Oversee transportation logistics for away games and secure officials for home contests.
- Organize and lead coaches’ meetings to review policies, guidelines, and expectations.
- Support school spirit initiatives through the campus store and team shops.
- Lead fundraising efforts, including the All Sports Booster Club and Knight Golf Classic.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School.
- Commit to evening and weekend responsibilities as needed to support athletic events and activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences, Sports Management, or Recreation Management.
- Master’s degree in Sports Management, Organizational Leadership, or Educational Administration preferred.
- Minimum of seven years of experience leading an athletic program, preferably in an independent school setting.
- Experience teaching and coaching at multiple levels (middle school, junior varsity, varsity).
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Knowledge of 21st-century educational and athletic best practices.
- Physical ability to meet the demands of the role.
