The Veteran Service Officer (VSO) at The Warrior’s Journey plays a critical role in assisting veterans and their families in navigating the myriad of services and benefits available to them. As part of a nonprofit organization dedicated to the well-being of veterans, this position requires a compassionate and dedicated individual who understands the unique challenges faced by veterans and is committed to advocating on their behalf. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in motivational interviewing, crisis management, and social work, helping to ensure positive outcomes for veterans and their families within the nonprofit context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Needs Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the unique needs of veterans and their families, considering barriers to success, mental health, and other areas requiring support.
  • Benefit and Service Guidance: Provide veterans with clear and accessible information on the benefits and services available through The Warrior’s Journey, including healthcare, housing assistance, financial aid, educational opportunities, and more.
  • Claims Assistance: Assist veterans with completing applications for benefits and guide them through the complex claims process.
  • Motivational Interviewing: Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage veterans in The Warrior's Journey programs, such as workforce development, healing workshops, and supportive services.
  • Individualized Service Plans: Develop personalized service plans to address specific challenges that veterans may face, such as addiction recovery, mental health counseling, and family reintegration.
  • Community Collaboration: Work closely with local organizations and community partners to connect veterans with vital resources, such as housing support, mental health services, and job placement assistance.
  • Crisis Management: Potentially Lead workshops, support groups, and individual sessions focused on crisis management, emotional resilience, and healthy coping strategies for veterans dealing with trauma or other challenges.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, progress toward goals, and follow-up actions, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

  • A background in social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with veterans or within military communities is highly desirable, with a passion for supporting those who have served.
  • Strong knowledge of behavioral health practices and experience in addiction counseling is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated success in workforce development, training, and helping veterans transition into civilian careers is an asset.
  • Proficiency in crisis management strategies and the ability to support individuals during moments of distress.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to build trust with veterans and collaborate with community organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills, including case management and record-keeping.

Additional Skills

  • Ability to understand and navigate veterans' benefits, claims processes, and programs.
  • Comfort with managing sensitive and confidential information.
  • Capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficient in case management software and tools.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year

Salary : $45,000 - $55,000
