As part of a reimagined Top of the Rock experience, the most iconic vantage point of Manhattan now includes The Weather Room Bar and Café. Named after the formerly functioning National Weather Service’s Doppler radar that sits atop the 70th floor of Rockefeller Center, The Weather Room offers distinctly New York food and beverages in the clouds.
All ingredients and prepared foods are sourced from fine purveyors across Rockefeller Center’s campus and throughout the five boroughs. Guests can enjoy wine, beer, cocktails, espresso drinks, baked goods, sandwiches, and snacks while taking in the iconic view from Top of The Rock.
Position Summary
The Shift Lead is an integral part of the Counter Team, acting as a leader when it comes to guest experience, food safety, cash-handling, and opening and closing procedures. Shift Leads are cross-trained to perform all functions of the Counter Server, Bartenders, and Baristas, in addition to daily responsibilities for opening and closing.

Service
- Lead the opening and closing of The Weather Room, ensuring all service stations are set up and broken down efficiently. Complete opening and closing checklists.Engage in direct customer service to ensure accurate, timely preparation of a food or beverage order.
- Warmly greet and engage with guests, making them feel welcome and valued throughout their visit.
- Maintain knowledge of all menu items, their ingredients, and preparation methods.
- Maintain knowledge of all beverage items, including beer, wine, and cocktails, and have the ability to prepare beverages based on house recipes.
- Answer questions about menu items, provide recommendations, and determine available options for guests based on their preferences and/or restrictions.
- Process guest payments via cash and credit card transactions, ensuring accuracy of checks.
- Ensure efficiency of all order ticket times.
- Maintain an organized and calm demeanor during peak service times, ensuring that all guest tickets are completed efficiently, and guest needs are met promptly.
- Communicate closely with the team to ensure that guest orders, special requests, and timing are handled smoothly.
- Support all aspects of service as needed to provide the best possible guest experience.
- Recognize important guests, taking the lead on their service experience and collecting feedback.
- Ensure the ongoing excellence in quality of all food and beverage ingredients and materials by providing regular quality assurance checks.
- Maintain complete knowledge of The Weather Room's policies and procedures and ensure that all practices and policies are being upheld.
- Work well with co-workers in a way that builds effective team spirit.
- Communicate inventory and ordering needs to management clearly and accurately.
- Train all new Counter Team employees on daily responsibilities, Point of Sale, and food and beverage preparation.
- Prepare the cash drop each day at the close of service.
- Oversee daily flow of service, support and cover meal periods for Counter Team, and encourage team efficiency and productivity throughout the shift.
- Adhere to posted schedules.
- Completes other duties as assigned by management.
Menu Knowledge
- Maintain a deep knowledge of The Weather Room's food and beverage menu, ingredients, and preparation.
- Understand different types of allergy restrictions and help communicate potential issues to floor and kitchen staff.
Sanitation, Hygiene, and Safety
- Adheres to all Department of Health and Safety standards related to food handling, hygiene, and alcohol service, including reviewing identification of all guests to verify they are of legal drinking age.
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; use equipment and tools only as intended, properly and safely.
- Inspect the cleanliness and working condition of all tools, equipment and supplies, ensuring everything complies with standards.
- Inform supervisor on duty immediately of any DOH or OSHA/workplace safety violations.
- Maintain proper storage procedures as specified by Department of Health requirements.
Qualifications
- 2 years as a counter server, barista, bartender, or shift leader in a similar caliber concept.
- Strong knowledge of coffee and beverage service as well as culinary concepts and terminology. Moderate knowledge of cocktail and wine service, preferred.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- High school diploma or GED.
- TIPS certification required within 60 days of hire.
- Familiarity with Toast POS system is preferred.
- Ability to work a variable schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays, per the needs of the business.
- Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Adaptable in fast-paced and challenging work environment.
- Polished personal presentation that meets Company standards.
