Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality care to animals. Your responsibilities will include assisting with examinations, treatments, and procedures while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for both pets and their owners. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of animal care and demonstrate a passion for working with animals.
Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures.
- Provide basic animal care, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals.
- Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian or veterinary technician.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including exam rooms and surgical areas.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including animal catheterization when necessary.
- Collect laboratory samples and perform basic laboratory tests as needed.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to ensure a sterile environment during procedures.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their animals' health and care instructions.
- Handle dogs and other animals safely and compassionately during examinations or treatments.
- Maintain accurate records of patient information, treatments, and medications.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal anatomy is essential.
- Experience in animal husbandry or previous work as a veterinary technician is preferred.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures related to veterinary medicine is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with clients and team members.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn new skills related to animal care and veterinary practices.
- Must be able to lift and handle animals of various sizes safely.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $13.00 - $17.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Experience:
- Veterinary experience: 1 year (Preferred)
Ability to Relocate:
- Lexington, VA 24450: Relocate before starting work (Required)
