Exempt, Salary Range $100-$125,000
The Director of Sales & Catering’s key responsibilities include providing leadership and strategy to the Sales and Catering team for the Westgate Hotel and AquaVie to ensure maximum revenue for the property. The Director of Sales & Catering works with the General Manager to outline short and long term goals to maximize the properties top line revenue. This leadership role requires vision and financial planning skills, as well as excellent communication skills and people leadership with both internal and external customers. Financial acumen is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares the annual Business Plan in conjunction with the General Manager and other Hotel Management
- Produces, implements and monitors Sales, Service, Catering, and AV/IT Manager action plans to ensure Business Plan objectives are achieved
- Analyzes current and potential markets/trends, coordinates all activities to maintain and increase revenue through added business volume and increased rates
- Procures new and repeat business for the hotel through contact and relationships with Destination Management Office, Travel Agencies, National Sales Offices (NSO’s), Marketing Partnerships and professional associations (MPI, ASAE, PCMA, HSMAI, etc.) within local, national and international markets
- Maintains contact with meeting planners, corporate accounts and incentive buyers, through personal sales calls, telephone contacts and written communications
- Creates and implements special programs to achieve greater productivity through:
- Increasing average daily rate / occupancy
- Increasing business volume
- Increasing banquet revenues
- Increasing AV revenues
- Ensures the hotel is represented as an active member of the local community through association membership, networking events, Board of Directors participation.
- Directs all sales activities for Sales Managers to ensure they meet revenue goals
- Weekly reviews of sales team activities to ensure targets and sales objectives are being met
- Meets with guests from major influencers/organizers of large events staying in the hotel to ensure guest satisfaction
- Review the daily business levels, anticipate critical situations and plan effective solutions in conjunction with the department heads, to best expedite these situations
- Produces monthly Sales Report and forecasts
- Organizes and attends major sales/PR related functions within the hotel
- Arranges and conducts annual Sales Blitzes as well as FAM tours
- Oversees and leads team of group sales managers, convention sales manager, catering manager, AV/IT Manager.
- Maintain and promote a teamwork environment with effective and clear communication amongst co-workers.
- Works with GM and SL team to create and implement a sales planaddressing revenue, customers and the market for the segment led by the DOS.
- Sets example through professional, friendly attitude towards clients and co-workers, timely response to clients and co-workers needs and observance of Westgate and sales office standard.
- Executes and supports the operational aspects of business booked (e.g., generating proposal, writing contract, customer correspondence).
- Evaluates and drives the hotel’s participation in the various sales channels, Market Sales, Event Booking Centers, electronic lead channels, etc.
HR Responsibilities:
- Attends all hotel trainings as required.
- Manages team of Sales, Catering, Convention, and AV/IT Managers.
- Adheres to all HR and hotel policies and procedures.
- Continually strives to improve self; knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Excellent working knowledge of creating and maintaining business accounts
- Advanced spoken and written English
- Strong communications (telephone and in-person).
- Strong writing and oral presentation skills
- Good working knowledge of Creating Sales & Marketing Strategies
- Good working knowledge of hotel operations
- Good working knowledge of Audio Visual Equipment and Desktop Support
Desirable/Preferable:
- Basic working knowledge of OPERA/PMS systems, DelphiFDC, etc.
- Basic working knowledge of On-Line Distribution Channels
- Additional languages
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Experience
- Minimum two years' experience as a Director of Sales or Assistant Director of Sales in a full-service hotel.
