POSITION OVERVIEW
The Preparedness/Public Safety Intern will serve as a member of Westminster Schools’ Campus Safety and Security Department. This Intern supports the school's emergency preparedness, workplace safety, and risk management efforts while providing valuable experience for individuals interested in occupational health and safety careers, emergency management, risk assessment, or corporate compliance.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Position Status: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt, Seasonal (Summer)
Hours of Work: 15-20 hours per work week.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Students pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or similar programs are preferred.
- Technologically proficient with a strong ability to adapt to new systems, tools, and software to enhance efficiency and problem-solving.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation
- Must be punctual, responsible, and dependable and take initiative

Additionally, successful applicants will possess:
- Attention to detail in reviewing safety protocols and regulations.
- Effective communication skills for training and reporting.
- Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards (a plus).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Core work responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assists with emergency notification platform development and testing.
- Assists in the development and implementation of emergency response plans and safety protocols.
- Assists with Emergency Operation Center functional annex checklist updates.
- Researches various campus safety concepts and priorities.
- Checks and evaluates emergency notification speakers in each building.
- Inventories and maintains preparedness equipment.
- Organizes CPR records and performs maintenance on CPR equipment.
- Learns and occasionally flies a drone for general patrol and special event needs.
- Plots cameras on an electronic map that includes individual camera fields of view.
- Helps identify gaps in camera coverage.
- Assists with access control troubleshooting.
- Tests individual cameras for proper settings, viewing, and cleaning.
- Conducts safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Researches and analyzes safety regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices.
- Assists with training sessions, drills, and educational materials for employees on safety and emergency preparedness.
- Helps maintain safety records, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
- Supports the coordination of emergency response procedures, including communication plans and evacuation strategies.
- Other duties as assigned - many duties or assignments are based on the dynamic needs of the School.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee must be able to stand and walk long distances and for extended periods. Additionally, in the event of an emergency, this employee must be able to move quickly and with urgency without assistance. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
Intern may have to climb ladders to adjust individual cameras.
Westminster is a drug-free, smoke/vape-free campus.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during regular business days.
Driving a Westminster vehicle may be required for this position.
