TITLE: Shelter Support Staff

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 11pm-7am

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

The goal is to maintain coverage of the site operations and services when full time, weekday staff is not on site to Participant families who are currently homeless residing at Safe Families Interim Housing utilizing a Housing First, Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed and Low-Barrier approach.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Supports guidelines and policies governing shelter operations.
  • Allows access to the shelter Participant and Visitor (service providers only).
  • Documents entries and exits from the facility by all persons.
  • Assist Participants problems, questions, and provides mediation when conflicts occur.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed, referrals.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to parents on managing their children's behavior.
  • Complete incident reports when critical incidents happen, including but not limited to Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) reporting, as all staff are mandated reporters.
  • Completes daily communication log.
  • Conducts common area and room inspections as needed to ensure client and facility safety.
  • Communicates and consults with Shelter Manager to facilitate service delivery.
  • Communicates opportunities for improvements to service delivery and client identified needs.
  • Assist to maintain the general upkeep and cleanliness and sanitizing of the facility to maintain fire, health, and safety guidelines.
  • Assist Participants with appointments and program activities to support case management and supportive services.
  • Addresses anxious and or aggressive behaviors using De-escalation techniques to manage program rule violations.
  • Call 911 for Emergency services (police, fire, ambulance, and mental health) as part of a crisis response. Including the presence of unauthorized visitors, such as violations to a restraining order (DV situations).
  • Follow Fire Alarm and evacuation procedures to ensure the safety of everyone in the shelter.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate relationships with Participants.
  • Assist in the dispensing of meals, by setting out meals and supporting meal service (NO COOKING).
  • Assist with inventory of shelter supplies.
  • Support in the preparation of Participant giveaways (hygiene bags, gifts and school supplies)
  • Support COVID 19 and all communicable disease protocols as designated by Dept of Public Health.
  • And any other task that is needed to aid and support the needs of Participants as outlined by the Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience related to providing Housing services in a congregate interim housing setting.
  • Experience working with the homeless population preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Desired qualities include being dependable, people oriented and adaptable/ flexible.
