What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Construction position at The Wills Group?
As the Director of Construction, you will lead the enterprise-wide construction function focused primarily on Dash In and Splash In store growth. Develop and implement a strategy that delivers competitive advantage and progress on the organization's strategic objectives. Participate in and support the vision and strategy development and decision-making for the whole company. Translate the mission, vision, and strategy for the enterprise into the mission, vision, and strategy for the function. Lead the development of construction programs and plans and lead the organization, coordination, and execution of construction projects.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Support the overall organizational strategy by developing and delivering prototype development, operational plans for Construction related components of new site development and drive outcomes for a large portion of the business, including the Construction of existing and new proposed locations.
- Develop the Dash In and Splash In Prototypical Design and Standards, working internally and externally with all key stakeholders and vendors, including A&E, Equipment and GC partners.
- Manage strategic vendor relationships to ensure compliance with contracts terms and sustainable partnerships
- Assist the Real Estate Team on development of developer standards and protocols and ensure specific delivery of Developer delivered locations in adherence to company standards.
- Lead Construction from real estate handoff of land use approvals and construction permits, general contractor bids and awards, equipment procurement and ordering through final closeout and clean turnover.
- Develop and gain agreement to annual business plans for a function or substantial business area, ensuring alignment with strategy; quantify business outcomes (i.e. expense control, projects delivered on time and on budget, limit change orders or other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)); detail expense and headcount budgets; and develop business cases for key projects, ensuring cross-functional integration.
- Embed Value Engineering into the fabric of the organization and lead value engineering efforts to support Dash In and Splash In growth plans.
- Communicate the function's strategy and its relationship to the organization's mission, vision and values; clarify the actions needed to implement it within the area of responsibility; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve the organization's business goals.
- Initiate and lead the governance and delivery of programs within a significant area of responsibility, using an appropriate program and project management methodology to give assurance that intended outcomes are identified and achieved.
- Provide authoritative specialist advice to the leadership team of a small or nationally based organization or subsidiary to guide the implementation of policy and the design and implementation of projects and change initiatives.
- Manage and report on the performance of the function / business area; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.
- Lead the development of partnering relationships with senior executives throughout the organization, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and ensuring that internal clients have access to high-quality advice and guidance to support in delivering business strategy and plans.
- Identify and manage stakeholders up to top management level, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
- Define the detailed organization structure for a business area to align with corporate principles, define the relationship between elements of the organization, and define the responsibilities of senior managers, to enable the organization to achieve its business objectives.
- Identify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs of a significant business area. Evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities. Motivate others to develop their capabilities and fulfill their personal potential. Build capabilities elsewhere in the organization through mentoring and other informal methods.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a similar field of study required (Master’s preferred)
- 7 years of experience in interpreting strategy and policy in order to set and deliver objectives within medium to long time frames
- 10 years of experience in providing leadership to others regarding work related systems, processes and challenges
- Proven ability to successfully plan, organize, and create action plans to efficiently meet business objectives

Salary : $155,000 - $195,000
