What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Assistant – Maldini Lab position at The Wistar Institute?
The Wistar Institute is a world leader in early-stage discovery science in the areas of cancer, immunology, and infectious disease. Wistar is committed to accelerating research advances from bench to bedside through brilliant science and distinctive approaches to collaboration among scientific investigators and academic and industry partners. Wistar’s dynamic environment supports the advancement of discoveries that will change the future of human health.
The Wistar Institute has an opening for a Research Assistant to join the laboratory of Dr. Colby Maldini to perform a wide variety of laboratory tasks and experiments, including genetic engineering of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells, mammalian cell culture, and in vivo testing of CAR T cell therapies directed against HIV and blood cancers in humanized mice.
The Maldini Lab leverages emerging genome engineering technologies to address challenges in immunotherapies and enhance their functionality for next-generation treatments. By integrating gene-editing technology such as base editors with synthetic biology, the lab aims to overcome therapeutic resistance, improve safety and expand the application of engineered immune cells to treat serious human diseases.
A bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (or equivalent experience) is required. Post-graduate experience is desired. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills as they will be trained by and work directly with the principal investigator, as well as exhibiting a keen enthusiasm for scientific inquiry.
