Summary of the Job:
The General Accounting Bookkeeper will assist in the oversight and execution of the day-to-day operations of the General Accounting Department. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in the reporting of financials for multiple sites and businesses, ensuring compliance within established administrative policies, regulations and acceptable accounting practices, providing service to internal departments, evaluating complete assignments for conformance with applicable policies, regulations & tax laws, and assisting external auditors.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- General Accounting & Banking:
- Verify and review Accounts Payable processing (Cross Training Only)
- Verify and review Accounts Receivable processing (Cross Training Only)
- Verify NSF correspondence (General Ledger Posting & Review)
- Provide Annual external audit support
- Verify and review Bank statement (Contribution Posting)
- Prepare, verify and review Journal entries
- Participation in weekly counting & reconciliation
- Coordinate, prepare and review weekly departmental reporting to assure deadlines are being met (Contribution postings, Weekly revenue report, etc.)
- Assist with annual and monthly budget development, maintenance and review (P-Cards, American Express, etc.)
- Reconcile, review, maintenance and post General ledger accounts
- Confirm transfers between bank accounts (and/or between institutions)
- Manage & Monitor wire transfers (**2017 task)
- Provide other banking responsibilities as needed
- Month end closing
- Membership/Contributions:
- Verify & Process weekly data entry and contribution postings
- Bookstore:
- Verification & Review of weekly deposits and sales paperwork
- Review monthly sales tax reports & payments
Other General Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the internal & external correspondence and communication with vendors and staff
- Develops, maintains and implements departmental procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes.
- Ensuring compliance within established administrative policies, regulations and acceptable accounting practices
- Assist in the development, implementation and execution of departmental deadlines
- Assist in other activities as identified and necessary
- Adhere to all Policy Procedures
- Perform miscellaneous assignments as deemed necessary by Accounting Manager and CFO
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma; accounting certificate or associate degree preferred
- 5 years of experience as a bookkeeper, accounting clerk, financial assistant
- Basic accounting knowledge
- Understanding accounting best practices
- Knowledge of GAAP
- Data entry skills
- High attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Produce work with a high level of accuracy
- Professionalism and organization skills
- Associates degree or at least one year of experience
- Knowledge QuickBooks, or other applications
