Director of Operations
At The Wright Community School, we empower our students to become the P.I.L.O.T.S. (Proactive, Innovative, Literate, Organized, & Tenacious Scholars) of their own lives by fostering a strong sense of community and providing them with an individualized education enriched with support and leadership. We are seeking a dynamic Director of Operations who will manage the operations needed to ensure the school runs smoothly while contributing to the overall school community. This position reports directly to the School Leader and serves on the school’s K-12 leadership team. The Director of Operations plays a crucial role in maintaining the school’s systems and supports in alignment with its mission.
Key Responsibilities
Communications
- Act as a key representative for the school, engaging with students, parents, visitors, media, and vendors. Build trust and communicate the mission and key stories of the school.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, ideally in multiple languages, maintaining a warm and professional manner.
- Manage WCS’s brand, including design, materials (physical and digital), and public communications (press releases, grants, social media).
- Oversee communication systems such as newsletters, email, phone, and printed materials.
- Lead the annual student recruitment process.
Operations
- Ensure campus cleanliness, security, operability, and alignment with the school’s mission.
- Manage vendor relationships, ensuring high-quality services in food, transportation, and facility maintenance.
- Oversee student transportation, ensuring safe and reliable service.
- Partner with food vendors to provide healthy, cost-effective meals to students daily. Office & Technology Support
- Ensure the operability of office technology, including copiers, laptops, and phones.
- Manage the procurement and responsible use of school materials and equipment. Development & Fundraising
- Coordinate the school’s fundraising efforts, including grant writing, events, and donor relations.
- Cultivate new donors and manage the school’s donor database.
Leadership & School Systems
- Develop and manage systems related to school operations, including student information systems, event logistics, and community partnerships.
- Manage the school's budget and financial strategies in partnership with the School Leader and CFO.
- Oversee administrative operations, ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning of the school’s facilities.
- Lead staff training on school operations procedures and support staff attendance and role coverage.
- Ensure emergency preparedness and campus security in compliance with laws and regulations.
- Oversee maintenance of the school grounds to ensure a clean, safe, and orderly environment.
Community Engagement & Culture
- Oversee field trips, student demonstration nights, and community events.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations to support school initiatives.
- Collaborate with school leadership to support student culture initiatives.
Desired Qualifications & Qualities
- Alignment with The Wright Community School’s mission, vision, and design principles.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years working with school-aged students.
- Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role and 2 years of school operations leadership.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Experience in project management, strategic planning, and Google Suite.
- Experience in community engagement and partnerships.
Additional Roles
- Serve as a member of the school leadership team and engage in school-wide decision-making.
- Participate in school events and activities outside of regular school hours as needed.
- Support coaching and development of select instructional staff and perform TKES observations.
- Canvassing: Door-to-door engagement to inform and organize community members about The Wright Community School.
- Tabling at Events: Set up informational tables at various community events such as farmer's markets, school fairs, fundraisers, and more, to educate the public about the school.
