PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Supervisor of Emergency Response Services co-leads a team responsible for the smooth functioning and compassionate and respectful delivery of frontline emergency advocacy services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Emergency services include operation of the YWCA crisis line, responding to survivors in crisis at YWCA facilities, area hospitals, and throughout the community, and attending to the day-to-day on-site service delivery of services and operations of YWCA’s emergency shelter.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in human services or related field required, specialized training in domestic violence preferred.
- Must pass criminal, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender background checks.
- Two years' experience in crisis intervention and residential services preferred.
- At least one year of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and adept at de-escalation techniques.
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated knowledge of family dynamics and childhood development.
- Demonstrated ability to be empathetic and establish rapport.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed and culturally appropriate practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promotes “How the Earth Didn’t Fly into The Sun” model of shelter program design.
- Provides guidance, education, and training to emergency advocacy staff while overseeing the completion of program goals/objectives per grant/foundation requirements.
- Provides supervision for emergency advocacy staff including shelter scheduling, residential client needs, answering the crisis line, clients without appointments and SANE supportive services.
- Ensures emergency advocacy staff complete shift task sheets and communicate any issues or needs to direct supervisor or the Director of Emergency Response Services.
- Supervises shelter programming while fulfilling funding requirements.
- Oversees data collection per funding and program requirements, focusing on nights of shelter, crisis calls, clients without appointments, and SANE supportive services provided by emergency advocacy staff.
- Ensures training and team meetings are conducted on a regular basis for emergency response advocates.
- Coordinates with all programs in the agency to ensure high quality coordinated services.
- Monitors building and shelter security systems and procedures. Report any issues to the Associate Director or the Director of Emergency Response Services.
- Assures necessary maintenance and custodial functions, as needed.
- Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program goals and objectives, ensuring the quality of services delivered to the survivors and community through monitoring and supervision.
- Provides supervision meetings with direct reports staff, interns, and volunteers on a regular basis to help with their professional development using a trauma-informed, client-centered, harm reduction model.
- Compiles statistics as required by funding sources and agency requirements. Complete all grant and reporting requirements as requested.
- Works collaboratively with other department leadership.
- Participates in management team meetings for successful completion of all programmatic goals, grant requirements and Director of Emergency Response expectations.
- Provides on-going support to the Associate Director of Emergency Response Services for all program accomplishments, updates, activities, outcomes, staffing changes, concerns, and recommendations.
- Participates in Supervisor On-Call responsibilities
- Adheres to Service Excellence standards at all times.
- Represents YWCA Kalamazoo by participating in community activities, coalitions and taskforce groups as requested or assigned by the Vice President of Victim Services.
- Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements
- Completes special projects.
- Attends all team and staff meetings, participates in collective team and agency efforts, and complies with all YWCA Kalamazoo policies and practices.
- Remains flexible and manages changing priorities on a continuing basis.
- Knows and adheres to Association policies, procedures, and practices.
- Safeguards confidential information gained because of the position.
- Complies with Association policy regarding required reporting of child abuse.
- As a YWCA employee, projects a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community.
- Works cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff, and volunteers.
