What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at Theiwrc?
City Wildlife is the District of Columbia’s first and only wildlife rehabilitation center. We opened in 2013 and treat from 1,500-2,000 sick, injured or orphaned animals each year with the goal of releasing these animals back to the wild. We handle all native species except bear, deer, mice, rats, and rabies vector species. Our center is well equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and has four full-time employees, including a wildlife veterinarian, all of whom share our goals of humane care, respect for the wildness of animals, support for the protection of wildlife habitat, and belief in the importance of public education. We enjoy an excellent reputation in our community, and our citizen science and outreach programs have received wide acclaim online and in the press. City Wildlife offers a supportive environment where staff can share, learn, empathize, and support each other through this vitally important work.
We are looking for an experienced nonprofit manager who will :
- Lead sensibly and equitably under conditions of uncertainty (e.g. shifts in funding, never knowing who’s going to come through the door, and seasonal fluctuation in the number and type of patients)
- Raise and prudently manage City Wildlife’s finances
- Oversee ongoing communication efforts : newsletters, website, social media sites, in-person presentations, classroom visits, and more
- Serve as a verbal and written voice of City Wildlife, calibrating messages for specific audiences, such as concerned individuals or groups, media, donors, and government agencies
- Lead advocacy efforts to preserve wildlife and wildlife habitat in the District of Columbia
- Serve as a liaison between City Wildlife’s staff and board members
