Location/Division Specific Information
Position is remote for Lenexa, KS, Pittsburg, PA, and Norcross/Atlanta, GA areas, and will support the Microbiology (MBD)Division.
Discover Impactful Work:
US Freight Manager, Microbiology reports to the Global Distribution Director, and will build key relationships with Site Leads, Site and Divisional Finance, Warehouse Leads, Quality, Production, and Global Trade Compliance teams. Lead and improve US freight operations for MBD, managing $250M revenue and a $20M spend. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in transportation laws and regulations.
A Day in the Life:
Freight Operations Management:
Manage a freight spend of approximately $20M across the MBD network.
Lead all aspects of freight transportation across 8 US locations, using 30 carriers.
Develop and implement strategies to optimize freight routes, reduce costs, and improve delivery times.
Compliance and Regulations:
Ensure all freight operations align with US and local regulations.
Implement and maintain procedures to ensure compliance with customs and safety regulations.
Review SKU master data for accuracy and to ensure appropriate freight and carrier selection.
Carrier and Supplier Relations:
Conduct regular performance reviews and audits of carriers and suppliers, developing and implementing corrective action plans as needed.
Collaborate with the Transportation Group and other Thermo Fisher divisional peers to share standard methodologies.
Proactively anticipate internal and external customer needs by exploring and modeling new service offerings.
Cost Management:
Develop and manage the MBD (North America) Freight Annual Operating Plan (AOP) to ensure efficient transportation solutions.
Implement and monitor cost control measures.
Serve as the CT Global & Data2 Logistics Super User for the division, understanding the tools, processes, and data interpretation.
Reporting and Analysis:
Participate in Management Business Reviews (MBRs) and site reviews to provide insights into freight movements and costs.
Analyze data to identify trends, improvement areas, and potential risks, developing and implementing action plans.
Collaborate with the Finance Partner to ensure accurate site-level accruals.
Process Improvement:
Continuously evaluate and improve freight processes and systems.
Support the PPI (Practical Process Improvement) funnel build for new projects.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations and improve performance.
Keys to Success:
Education
Bachelor’s degree required. Preferably in Microbiology, Management, Supply Chain, or other related discipline.
Experience
Requires 5 years experience in a transportation, or logistics position preferably within a highly regulated environment.
Requires 2- 3 years of leadership experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Requires strong business acumen including the ability to understand and resolve complex situations.
