ROLE OVERVIEW
The Maintenance Planner will perform planning and support functions necessary to maintain major mining equipment, infrastructure and facilities. They will schedule and plan short to medium term maintenance for fixed plant equipment (i.e. Mill and crusher) to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specification to ensure the equipment achieves maximum availability in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and Scheduling
- Produce, review and maintain rolling monthly, quarterly and annual plans as well as equipment specifications, tires and undercarriage tracking files
- Maintain currency and accuracy of equipment maintenance history, work orders, job records database and technical information on processes, plant and equipment
- Identify potential work using an effective condition monitoring program and financial package-based work programs and provide guidance and support to the project teams
- Develop weekly agreed maintenance plans using equipment strategies to facilitate maximum production and minimize downtime and costs to meet plant availability and reliability targets
- Align other maintenance activities such as defects and breakdown repairs with periodic maintenance and provide updates on a weekly basis
- Develop a recommended and optimized bill of materials for the various standard jobs employed under the maintenance strategy
Finance and Commercial
Ensure that work planned is completed within the allowed budget and resources by cost effective use of resources to maintain and service fixed plant infrastructure.Assist with the procurement and freight of parts and services and ensure full reliability of parts and equipment is retained while stored, only using approved suppliers and hire equipmentMaintain accurate and effective costing reporting as well as support documentation and ensure all completed work orders are closed outEffectively use the company's financial package to produce, review and maintain equipment lists and contracts and raise work orders for all maintenance activitiesCoordinate warranty claims and ensure warranty forms are lodged with OEMs for components and repairs using approved warranty processes and site documentationIdentify project-based opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce maintenance costs to increase effectiveness and efficiency by eliminating repetitive, costly or low-value workMaintenance and Reliability
Utilize predictive maintenance processes to raise re-work requests and organize any additional maintenance requirementsEnsure all materials, parts, personnel, tools, permits and equipment is available for execution when required by the planReview and audit mechanical repairs and services to ensure compliance with site maintenance schemes.Review and report on planning and scheduling, equipment reliability and maintenance department performanceManage tire life cycle by ensuring tires are maintained and repaired in accordance with company policy and best practices as per the tire management systemHealth, Safety, Environment and Community
Assist in the implementation and compliance of HSE plans to ensure safe and sustainable mobile plant and ancillary equipmentProvide expert advice in all incident investigations to ensure the root causes are identified and that all the required documentation is reported. If applicable, play an active role in implementing corrective actions in consultation with relevant partiesConstantly look to identify hazards and risks through regular inspections, audits, and behavioral observations as per HSE targets and take corrective actions where requiredRelationship ManagementLiaise with all internal stakeholders to enhance coordination between the maintenance department, mine leadership, and client groups and minimize interruptions to operations by maintaining strong working relationships with relevant personnelCommunicate detailed maintenance plans for scheduled maintenance to maintenance department, mine leadership, and client groups on a weekly basisCoordinate with the offsite maintenance planners to ensure the best business outcomes are achieved.Promote prosperous healthy client relationships to network and identify new business opportunitiesPerforms other related duties as assignedJOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 5 years experience in mobile equipment maintenance
Minimum of 2 years experience in fixed plant equipment planning, mining maintenance activitiesFamiliar with Office 365, including strong Excel skills and MS Project skillsExperience with SAP or JD Edwards ERP softwareUse of Cat SIS and other OEM parts manualsStrong written and oral communication skillsAuthorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is requiredMust be fluent in the English languagePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Strong knowledge of fixed plant processing and associated maintenance processes in a surface mine operation.Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., SAP, Maximo, JD Edwards ERP, or similar systems) - SAP Strongly desiredAbility to develop and manage maintenance schedules for equipment and machinery.Expertise in predictive and preventative maintenance techniques.Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems within fixed plant assetsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues.Experience with resource allocation and optimizing maintenance workforce efficiency.Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., MSHA).Ability to analyze equipment and processing performance data to identify trends and improvement areas.Excellent communication skills for coordinating between maintenance teams, operators, and management.Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.Familiarity with cost estimation and budget management for maintenance projects.Experience with inventory management and spare parts control.Ability to work in a team-oriented environment while being self-motivated and proactive.Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.Familiar with Office 365, including strong Excel skills and MS Project skills.JOB REQUIREMENTS
2-3 years in fixed equipment planning, mining maintenance activities and / or equivalent industrial experienceExperience in fixed plant equipment maintenance - crushing, material handling, mill / processing ( 5yrs)Surface mining experience.Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is required.Must be fluent in the English language.EDUCATION
